Lars Husdal // Chief product officer, Novatech NESSi

As a scientist and researcher specializing in energy and emissions, now serving as Chief Product Officer, I'm proud to announce our first NESSi release of 2025. The team has worked hard to bring enhancements that allow for further scenario customization, and empower the users of NESSi to forecast and report future emissions with ease, and decarbonize with confidence. Our commitment to creating easy-to-use strategic emission reduction software is reflected in every aspect of this release.

The NESSi users are at the heart of our product development. So whether you are working on the company Group Financial Outlook, Asset Development Plan, Long Range Plan, or New Projects and Discoveries, the latest innovations in NESSi help you work smarter, not harder.

Great value can be unlocked by forecasting everything from stand alone assets to whole portfolios in a rapid and precise manner. And being able to assess numerous decarbonization scenarios and compare them is key to achieve ambitious net zero targets. NESSi is paving the way for a truly digital future of energy and emissions forecasting and decarbonization by always working with the latest data, with data and scenario updates on the fly.

So, what's new?

1. Create new asset feature implemented

This feature lets the user add a new field, discovery, tie-back, wells, or any new project with designated production related data. The production and injection etc. can be routed to/from existing installations and fields. The new asset is treated like any other asset after it is added inside a created scenario. The scenario itself can easily be shared within your organisation.

2. Specific emissions

Emissions per produced unit is an important metric and KPI for many energy companies. It is usually measured as mass CO2 equivalents per volume oil equivalent produced. For most assets the specific emissions increase towards tail production and end-of-life. By including this metric in the dashboard NESSi users can quickly compare assets, and analyse decarbonization alternatives to address important hard to abate emissions.

3. Adjust equity (ownership) of assets over time

It is now possible to adjust equity of assets and licenses over time. This makes it easy to update NESSi on actual changes in ownership, however, it also lets the user analyze hypothetical ownership changes to share of assets and licenses. Combining this Equity feature with the previous Infrastructure feature analyzing timing of discoveries and new projects, makes for a powerful analytical tool for optimizing the company portfolio towards energy, emissions and carbon costs.

4. Library Expanded with Power Import options

Measures for Power from Shore and Power from Offshore Wind have, respectively, been improved and included in the Library. These measures are now designed to be highly customizable, allowing users to tailor important variables to analyze specific configurations and projects.

5. Default values updated

NESSi contains many data points, however, one of many strong traits is that default values are included for everything from input data to decarbonization technologies in the Library of Measures. For the last couple weeks all the default values in NESSi have been quality checked and updated. This includes all historical and forecasted production related data on NCS, which means that the energy models for non-operated hubs, installations and assets have greatly improved.

6. Variable calorific values and emissions factors

The user can now easily edit historical and forecasted values for GHG emission factors and calorific values of fuel, flare and cold vent.

These upgrades aren’t just incremental improvements—they are game changers for digital centralized forecasting and decarbonization of the future. Built on user feedback and our commitment to innovation, at Novatech we continue to develop a strategic emission reduction software that is integrative, trusted and empowering users to achieve more with less.

We are not just building software—we’re solving real-world challenges—enabling energy companies eliminate emissions!
